TAPE

Packaging and stationery tape

• Packaging tapes are predominantly available in polypropylene but also in PVC and come in buff and clear and are mainly used for cotton sealing. Coloured packaging tape is used when packaging requires different colour coding to distinguish different products or shelf lives. It can also be printed on to differentiate products or to create or promote company image. It can also be used as bag closing.

• Gummed paper tape is used for carton-sealing and meets environmental concerns, being both bio-degradable and recyclable.

• Filament tape is made from clear polypropylene film reinforced with glass fibre filaments for additional strength. It is used for heavy duty carton sealing and heavy reinforcement.

• Stationery tapes are used in general office administration applications as well as certain light industrial applications.

Masking tapes

• Used mainly in painting and spray painting applications to protect surfaces that do not require spraying or painting. Available in general purpose (household, stationery and basic applications) and high temperature (automotive and specific/demanding applications.)

Double-sided tapes

• Double-sided tapes are used to bond two surfaces together, either temporarily or permanently. These are available in different base materials such as polypropylene, foam, cloth, tissue, PVC, polyester, etc. Each of these materials have certain characteristics which make them more suitable to particular applications. Items in these applications could include: Name badges, licence plates, carpets, mirrors, printing stereos/plates, car mouldings, courier bags, woven labels, yachting sails, paper, etc.

PVC

• General purpose PVC electrical tapes are used in every day applications. Also available for more specific and demanding applications, is the industrial grade, which is SABS approved. This is a flame retardant, self-extinguishing PVC tape manufactured to withstand higher temperatures and voltages. A comprehensive range is available for the harness industry.

• floormarking tape is used to demarcate areas e.g.: departments, danger areas, vehicle areas, etc. The advantage over paint is that should an area need to be changed, the PVC tape can simply be removed. Safetywalk (non-slip) floormarking tape is also available for slippery areas e.g. Floors, steps, etc.

• Protection tape is a weather resistant tape which offers protection to aluminium and PVC window frames as well as to glass windows. It is also widely used to protect products from scratches either during manufacture process or in finished form. It has a cured solvent rubber adhesive that provides reside-free removal of the tape when applied correctly.

• Joining tape is mostly used in the construction industry for the joining of waterproof plastic sheeting.

Other

• Duct Tape is used in the air conditioning industry for the sealing and insulating of ducts. The tape has good waterproofing qualities and temperature resistance. It is available in assorted colours for identification coding if necessary. It is also widely used as a general ‘fix-it’ tape.

• Aluminium foil tape is also used for the sealing of ducting and cladding. It has a high temperature resistance.

• Petrolatum tape is used to prevent corrosion on manholes and joints of steel underground pipes.

• PTFE/Plumbers tape is used by plumbers as a sealant on pipe threads.
